OUR STORE

From the moment you step into the store to the moment you play your first note in any one of our 16 private lesson rooms, you'll know we take your music education seriously; we have since 1979. Every employee and instructor has been blessed with the ability to do what we love, and that’s teaching music.

Occupying over 6,000 square feet of space, Norwalk Music, Inc. carries the most complete line of musical instruments and accessories in all of Southern Fairfield County. We carry many major brands as well as all the print music required by all of the area school systems and private teachers.

We are a major supplier to schools all over the region. Music Educators have been able to depend on Norwalk Music to fill their needs whether routine or emergencies. We have the only fully staffed "Napbirt" (National Association of Professional Band Instrument Technicians) complete countless numbers of repairs, restorations, setups on every instrument imaginable; band instruments, orchestral instruments, guitars and electronics.

OUR TEACHING STAFF

"I could never play music," you say. "I'm not musical."

Even your favorite artist had to start somewhere on their journey to becoming a musician. Some started by picking up an old guitar and strumming, some were taught formally in school or church and some just plain started. The point is, everyone starts somewhere, and you're in the right place to start now.

Norwalk Music, Inc. has been the leading center of music education in the greater Fairfield county area since 1979. Literally tens of thousands of students have passed through our doors having learned to play their choice of musical instrument. Many students have moved on to be professional players and teachers. Many have just enjoyed the experience and still play for their own enjoyment today.

Our teaching staff is second to none, with well educated music teachers that are dedicated to helping you learn, progress and enjoy your musical experience. Many of our teachers can be found performing both locally as well as at some of the most famous venues across the country and around the globe. Some record and travel with nationally famous artists and have been featured in stories in popular trade publications. Each holds at least a Bachelors degree in his or her instrument and many have their Masters Degree. In addition, each individual teacher must have the correct personality and temperament in order to teach at our facility. Ask for a biography and don't forget to ask the teacher where their next "gig" is, tonight or this weekend.

OUR FACILITY

Within the walls of our facility are 13 spacious, very sound retardant rooms, plus a large ensemble room.  Each room is fully equipped with top quality instruments (if applicable) pianos, keyboards, metronomes, tuners, amplifiers, professional drum sets and cymbals, record and playback devices etc. We firmly believe that your learning experience should never be hampered or put on delay because of the inability to start your new book or concept until the next week. That is why we have gone to great lengths to sound proof and supply each room with all of the tools needed. We have a full time lesson coordinator who handles all aspects of scheduling; including matching our students with the right teacher, and finding the best time for your lessons. What's more, our students always have someone to contact with questions or concerns about their lessons.

Norwalk Music, Inc. is truly agreat place to learn music. Many students travel from out of town to study with our teachers, and many have said they just love the environment the moment they walk through our doors.

MUSIC & YOUR BRAIN

Researchers are providing us with an unprecedented understanding of how we think and how we learn. Here are just a few examples of the thousands of studies of the benefits of music study.

Second grade students, who were given four months of piano keyboard training, as well as time using math puzzle software, scored 27% higher on proportional math and fractions tests than children who received no special instruction. They were also able to solve proportional math problems on a sixth grade level.

In a study at The University of California at Irvine, 34 preschoolers were given piano keyboard training. After 6 months, all the children could play basic melodies from Mozart and Beethoven. They exhibited significant increases in visual spatial skill up to 36% improvement compare to other preschoolers who received computer lessons or other types of stimulation.

The College Entrance Examination Board reported that students with experience in musical performance scored 51 points higher on the verbal part of the SAT and 39 points higher on the math section that the national average. In a study of approximately 7,500 students at a university music and music major had the highest reading scores of any students on campus.

Learning a musical instrument, at any age can be helpful to develop and activate temporal lobe neurons. As the temporal lobes are activated in an effective way they are more likely to have improved function overall.
